TRAINING
For prior planning, trainings will take place in both our offices (you can pick whichever is closer to you to train at), BUT entertained would be working close to home. (Basically, once you’re trained you have all of your stuff on you at home so you go straight to where ever you’re working that day. The average commute is 30-45min away from home, with travel pay.)
Training takes about 9-12 hours and is unpaid, but after that you’ll start at the full rate

MISC Q&A
I don’t have a car but I have a reliable parent, friend, or can use public transport. That’s fine right? Sorry, this one is REALLY important to us since a lot of our work is out in the suburbs and your ride would have to wait 90min-3hrs for you. It just hasn’t worked out in the past for us, although some exceptions can be made in Boston itself.
It says full weekend availability – but what about church, temple, community theatre, or my other job? We’re happy to make exceptions if you have religious services that you attend, and getting weekends off for opening the opening of a play you’re in is easy. But because event work scheduling is hard, we don’t accept applicants who have a second weekend job unless they’re planning on quitting it once we offer them one here.
How do we get on parties? You don’t have to do anything – we have awesome marketing and customer service people in our office. We do all of the office work for you – you just entertain at parties!(But if you’re curious, we have a lot of return customers and are growing through word of mouth–partially because our team of talent is so amazing!)
Do I have to buy anything? How do I get supplies? Nope – you don’t invest any money in anything. (You’d be surprised how many people think this job is too good to be true.) Just come to the trainings to get a handle on the job and when you’re done we hand you all the stuff you need and your log-in to the schedule. It’s really that easy.
Why is training unpaid? You’ll become a 1099 contractor, meaning that we don’t take taxes out of your paycheck and that 95% of artists pay less in taxes than if they were a W2 employee. However, the one drawback is that because of federal contracting laws, we can’t pay you for training. Our artists all find the long-term benefit of this outweighs a day of training, so we’ve stuck with it.
Could this become a full-time job for me? The growth opportunities are more focused on teaching artists additional art forms, giving them raises, and putting them on more part-time hours. Many artists who start on 1-2 art types and $30/hr are making closer to $40 within a few years, and there are never-ending opportunities to learn here. To make the transition to full-time, however, it would require a position in our office–and our turn over rate is low enough that opportunity is extremely rare. So YES we have growth opportunities, but it will likely stay your favorite part-time job for a long while.
