Ever wonder what’s in face paint? (Is it really paint? Does it have any peanuts, soy, milk, or animal products? What about latex? Heavy metals?) What about perfumes? Is it okay for sensitive skin?

We use only 2 supplies for 2 brands of face paint–“face paint” being a misnomer since what we really put on children’s faces is kid-friendly makeup.  Face paint should never be done with actual paints! Our makeup is free of cancer-causing metals, unlike actual paint, all safe for skin, and cruelty-free.

• SOME fragrance (all colors; for children with fragrance sensitivities, we always have our other brand of face paint, listed below, on-hand which has no fragrances.)

General Safety Information

All non Neon Silly Farm Rainbow Cakes have been formulated with FDA approved pigments for cosmetic application. Like all cosmetic products, face paints can cause an allergic reaction if the individual is allergic to any of its components. Although Silly Farm Rainbow Cake face paints have been formulated with special ingredients to reduce the chances of an allergic reaction, an allergy free experience can not be guaranteed by any manufacturer. The manufacturer recommends that this product should not be applied to broken or sensitive skin. Test by placing a small amount to the wrist, if reaction occurs within 30 minutes do not use. TAG Face & Body Paint

Please note, while we still have some TAG products on our shelves, in 2019  we removed several colors after hearing complains in our industry. Right now we feel confident using the colors we have in stock, but we do constant market research and will likely phase out all TAG products by the end of 2026.

General Safety as listed by the manufacturer 

All TAG Face Painting products are made with Cosmetic grade, FDA approved ingredients. TAG face paints are hypoallergenic non-toxic and safe for skin. That said, you should not face paint near the eyes. Some products include perfume (Hydroxy-methylpentylcyclohexenecarboxaldehyde). Discontinue use if rash develops.

About TAG Neon Face Paints: Independent European tests have shown all TAGs Neon face paints to be safe. All neon paints have a special pigment that allows them to shine under the black light. The FDA have approved some of the colors for use on the skin (Neon White, Neon Blue, and Neon Violet). The FDA labels some neon colors as “special effects products”: Neon Pink, Neon Orange, Neon Yellow, and Neon Green. However no one has reported a problem. [source]

As per manufacturer, TAG Face Paints are vegan as they do not contain animal based ingredients and neither are they tested on animals. They are also free of gluten, nut based ingredients, parabens or perfume. [source]
