Westfield, MA Face Painter and Balloon Twister: Victoria D!

March 6, 2016 kscope

Victoria D is a face painter and balloon twister from Westfield MA and a real-life cartoon character. Tough as a superhero, goofy as a cartoon, and as pretty as a princess, Victoria is one of our most versatile performers. With a background in performing for fun in high school and professionally as a character at Six Flags, Victoria took up face painting and balloon twisting without skipping a beat. Because of this, Victoria is often our go-to for any princesses-and-art combo packages, as well as our main MA mascot character.

On top of her face painting and balloon twisting, in 2018 she became one of our star henna artists, so if you’re expecting a henna artist in Western MA or Central CT, you’ll likely meet Victoria.

Finally, in 2024, she completed her caricature artist training and added yet another amazing skill to her resume as a professional artist.

Victoria started with Kaleidoscope back in 2015 when she was an undergrad at Westfield State University working towards her BA in Psychology but looking for a weekend job with a creative outlet.

Since then, she’s finished both her Master’s and board certifications as a psychologist in 2020. During the week Victoria now works with children as a therapist, but during her free time enjoys fulfilling her creative needs by acting in community theatre, directing children’s theatre, and entertaining at parties.

Interview with Westfield MA Face Painter and Balloon Twister, Victoria:

When and why did you start working at Kaleidoscope?

I started working at Kaleidoscope years and years ago when I was in college for my undergrad. I had worked doing henna tattoos and face paint at Six Flags during high school and my friend Kayleen who worked for the company asked if I’d be interested in being paid to be a princess. That’s how we got where we are today!

What’s your favorite art form (or performance etc) to do here?

Being a balloon twister is probably my favorite (more than face painting), but I really like doing henna tattoos and caricatures as well.

What is your favorite part of being a Balloon Twister and Caricature Artist?

My favorite part of balloon twisting is trying new designs. I like the freedom to do anything you can think of with balloons, the possibilities feel endless.
My favorite thing about caricatures is how no two drawings will be anything alike, even if it’s the same person in my seat. Every party is a new experience every time.

What is one surprising fact about you?

I think being a licensed mental health counselor is probably the most surprising thing about me because people seem to assume I work totally in the arts or entertainment if they see me out working as a balloon twister.

What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about what you do?

I don’t have to look at most of the balloons as make them; like making a dog, sword, cat, so many of the designs have become muscle memory to the point where I’m twisting and looking around at other things.

What do you think your superpower as an artist is?

My determination when learning new things is probably my artist super power. I decide I can do things and eventually, I succeed. Maybe perseverance, maybe the power of positive thinking and self-confidence.

What was the most memorable party you ever entertained at?

Catherine’s Butterfly Party is a gig we do annually where animals can be adopted, vendors sell items, there are raffles and food, it’s a beautiful event with a great turn-out and a lot of fantastic things happening. I’m thrilled to be there each year.

What’s your favorite part of Entertaining at a Kids Party?

I like to encourage children to be their weird little selves and embrace all of the little activities and interests they want to pursue to become interesting, complex, and compassionate humans.

What’s one piece of advice you give to every parent planning a birthday party?

Consider the setting of the party! For example, kids may not want to get their face painted at a pool party because it will wash off when they swim, so balloons, caricatures, or other activities may be a better option in that case.

What’s one thing you want every corporate event planner to know?

I will do my best to accommodate any needs and requests that are brought to my attention. For example, I’ve picked out theme specific designs per request for a party at a reptile and amphibian exhibit.\
